Prevent doorbell chime on motion detection

I have an issue whereby when a person approaches my front door the doorbell detects the motion and sounds an alert chime. When the caller hears the alert chime he/she assumes they have rung the bell so stand there like lemons. I’d like to disable the doorbell from chiming when it detects motion but still want my plug-in chime indoors to alert me. My thinking is that if a caller doesn’t hear the motion alert from the doorbell then they will physically press the bell button. I will also know of their pending arrival as the plug-in chime inside the house will have notified me of the motion.
