Email from Ring to upgrade

I received an email from ring this morning asking me to upgrade my app, but I have to use Android 9 for the new app. I am using an old Samsung S7 and it is unlikely that it can use Adnroid 9, I am on Android 8, and Samsung Experience Version 9, Ring app 3.49.0. It seem to be working all right for now, what problem will I likely to have in future. I am a bit reluctant to change my phone £500+ just because Ring app wants me to. I'd rather do without Ring.
