Ring Video Doorbell
Connect Ring Doorbell thru a Hotspot
I own a second home that I want to keep my Ring Doorbell active on to monitor activity at that location. I moved my high end internet modem and router to my new home because the Internet Service Provider (ISP) costs are substantial and the only constant use of a web connection at the old house is the Ring doorbell. I own a Verizon Samsung SCH-111 4g hotspot devise, so I activated it as an internet connection at the old house. It works with a laptop to connect to the web and with the Ring doorbell BUT The hotspot will not maintain state between the Ring doorbell and the local cell tower over a “long” period of time. In other words, you connect the Ring doorbell to the internet thru the Verizon Samsung hotspot and it works for a little while, but something causes the connection to be dropped and I can no longer see video from the camera. In short, the connection becomes unreliable, get dropped and cannot be re-established except by being at the part time vacant house and processing a new connection. The connection is possible but not reliable enough to meet the goal of being an inexpensive security connection.
