Ring double billing /charging on annual plans if you upgraded your plan

billing

Ring had been charging me 2x, 4 months apart annually for 2 plans and I just discovered it now after getting double billed for 3 years on auto renew. It seems like this started when I upgraded from a regular RIng Yearly Plan to the Multicam Yearly Plan that later got upgraded to Protect Plus Year. Even if my account only shows 1 plan (the Protect Plus Year), their billing system kept billing me the “Ring Yearly Plan” plus the “Protect Plus Year”. It is obviously a flaw in their system. When I called Ring to complain, they said they can only go back a year and reversed the latest one from XXXX. The ones from XXXX and XXXX, they want me to deal with my credit card company directly to get it reversed as apparently, they can’t even issue a special refund for those 2 remaining years. I find that very hard to believe they can’t issue a refund. It seems like they don’t want to lift a finger on this and even blaming me for not contacting them sooner for THEIR error. C’mon, I trusted ring to do the right thing to bill me correctly and put my thing on autopay so that I don’t forget to pay them and that is how they are treating me now? So for those of you who are on Auto pay that upgraded, BEWARE and look at all your billing records. Chances are you have been double billed without you knowing it. I saw similar cases posted here dating back to XXXX. So this flaw in their system doesn’t seem to be fixed up to now. And if you try and ask Ring to correct it, goodluck getting them all back as they can’t even issue a refund. We are on our own to try to get our Credit card companies to allow us to dispute from years ago. Ring won’t even help.

Hi @user78996. Ring Protect plans are automatically billed on either a monthly or yearly basis. These plans can be canceled at any time, and you may receive a prorated refund if there is unused time on the plan. We have steps on how to cancel a Ring Protect plan here. It sounds like your original Basic plan was never canceled when you subscribed to the Plus plan, thus multiple plans were being billed. This is just a guess based on the information you shared, as we cannot review account or billing details on the Ring Community. We urge any neighbors with questions about the billing of their Ring Protect plan to contact our support team for further assistance.

Where did you infer my basic plan was never canceled? Didn’t you read in my statement above that in my account there is just 1 (ONE) plan reflected? This is another classic example of you folks blaming your customer for these double billings instead of owning up to your mistakes! Way to deflect! Anyway, I called Ring again after I spoke to my credit card company as obviously, the CC cannot refund something from 2 years ago. And this time, I got a different customer care representative that was able to refund the 2 years of double billing that was not being refunded to me by your previous customer care representative. Makes me wonder why you have different answers/protocols each time. So warning again to other Ring customers who upgraded their plans, double check your bills from previous years as the billing can be in different months. And if you were double billed and Ring refuses to refund it to you, call again until they refund because they can refund it.

I'm having the same issue after upgrading 5 years ago & have been overbilled by $XXXX from the basic plan! The only way I found out was through a support call on changing the video recording timeframe. This somehow promoted the basic plan to get cancelled and I initially thought the service person cancelled my subscription. Going into the billing history and there I see the double billing. Don't trust a company selling you safety & peace of mind and only wants your credit card number...
