  Hey @Baron. When you say you have a cable running from the meter, is this an ethernet cable or some other cable? Since the wifi connection is very poor in the shed or non-existent, you will need to hook it up with an ethernet cable for that connection, and then the cellular backup will be used when your internet goes down completely. If you do not have the ability to utilize an ethernet cable at your shed, you will not be able to use a Ring Alarm system in your shed as you do not have a stable wifi connection available.

  Hi Chelsea, Firstly thanks for the reply, No sorry, I shoukd have made it more clearer, the cable gojng to the shed is a mains armoured 240v power cable. I don't really have the possibility to run an ethernet cable to the shed Many thanks

  Hi @Baron, happy to step in for Chelsea here. In that case, you may want to look into other options for securing the shed on your property. Without a solid wireless or wired internet connection at the shed, the Base Station would not be able to maintain a reliable connection to operate in the shed.

  Baron, I have a backyard shed, about 90 feet away from my Alarm Base Station. I successfully use a Door Contact sensor (Gen 2) on that shed door. If you are thinking about protecting your Workshop with the Ring Alarm system, you should be able to use a Contact Sensor on the door, and if you like, I imagine you could also put a Motion Detector Sensor inside the workshop too. Both the Window/Door Contact Sensors and Motion Detectors utilize "Z-wave" to connect wirelessly to the Alarm Base Unit. "Z-wave" is different than Wi-Fi. In open air, the Z-Wave range can be impressive, but wall structures and the type of material composition between devices, can easily reduce Z-Wave range. The smartphone App will display if/when the Z-wave connection is poor (an icon will appear just to the upper left of the pictured sensor). A poor Z-wave strength can be compensated by placing an "Alarm Range Extender" in an indoor outlet, to reduce the distance. For example, my Range Extender is plugged into my house kitchen wall outlet that is about 50 feet from the shed sensor. In my situation, before the shed Contact Sensor always worked without an Extender, but it constantly displayed a Weak-Connection icon. Now, with the Extender, the App always shows that sensor without the Weak-Connection icon . But if you want to attach a Ring camera on the shed, cams utilize Wi-Fi. With no available Wi-Fi, you're out of luck. I do monitor my backyard shed with a Ring Stick-up Video cam, that is attached to my house and pointing at the shed area. Hope this helps you :)

I just used the Range Extender to 'reach out' to the my Door Contact sensor on the door of the shed. Have you decided what you're going to use for your Workshop? I'm just curious. :)

  Hi, I just got a new shed for my backyard that I want to connect to my exsisting Ring Alarm system. My shed is 15ftish away from my house and my alarm base is about 23ft from the shed. I imagine given the other posts that the connection shouldn't be a problem, but my current question is how to I set up a contact sensor on the shed door that is connected to my main alarm so it alerts me; but I don't necessarily want all my sensors to be disarmed at the same time. I'd love to be able to control my sensors separately. I have 2 on doors in the front in my house and 1 on the backdoor and 1 on the shed. Anyone know how if I can set it up to disarm the front only, back only, or all?
