Is it possible to place contact sensor between screen door and main door?

I have a front and side door that opens inside, but the doors have 5" deep door frames inside, so I cannot place the sensor inside (I wouldn't be able to open the door ;-). Both doors have screen doors, can I place the sensor to the outside of the main door between the door and the screen door?
