Successful conversion of Ring Chime 2 to work off low voltage doorbell transformer

Background: I recently purchased a Ring wired doorbell. I specifically wanted this model so I never have to fuss with batteries. I understand that the Ring Wired doorbell will not work with my old chime so I would also need to buy a Ring Chime 2 (I like the look & features)… fair enough ! My dilemma was that the Chime needs to be plugged into an AC outlet so I would be left with a hole in the wall with wires hanging out from where the old chime used to be. Sure, I could just leave the old chime in place doing nothing but I didn’t really want to (cheesy). It’s old and fugly and replacing it was the original reason for this whole exercise. I also didn’t want to have to cut or shove the wires into the wall and plaster over it, then re-paint that section of wall as I still wanted to have access to the wires since it powers the Ring wired doorbell. What I REALLY wanted was to put the Ring Chime on the wall where the old chime was but of course there’s no A/C outlet there, just the transformer and doorbell wires. So I opened up the Chime to see if I could convert it to work off the low voltage doorbell transformer. It turns out that the innards of the Chime 2 is comprised of two boards. One is the actual Chime electronics and the other is a 110VAC to 5VDC switchmode power supply. I was able to remove the switching power supply and the 2 AC plug blade prongs, then install an inexpensive ($3) board that converts the doorbell transformer low voltage AC to DC and regulate it to 5V. This replacement board is smaller than the original switching power supply board so it fit inside with ease. I wired the 5VDC output (2 wires) to the Ring Chime board and brought the low voltage AC wires (2 wires) out the back of the unit. I connected those wires to the existing doorbell transformer wires and it works like a champ ! It now resides on the wall in the hallway where the old original chime used to be and looks great. Ring should really consider offering a low voltage Chime 2 like this as I would imagine I'm not the only person with the same dilemma.
