Hi all, I'm intending to install a Ring doorbell wired. I currently have no doorbell system fitted at my house so this will be a clean install. I am getting slightly confused by the Ring lack of clarity and contradiction in their instructions. I have bought the Video doorbell wired, DIN Rail Transformer for Wired Video Doorbells (2nd Generation), and a Pro Power Kit. I intend to run this off an already installed fused and switched junction box that currently feeds my outside light. I intend to take a spur off this with 2 core 1mm cable into the live and negative terminals on the transformer. I will then use Bell wire from the 24vdc terminals to the doorbell and incorporate the power kit in this feed. I also have the doorbell chime which will be plugged in to give audible back up to the doorbell being used. My problem is with Ring saying that the power kit is not required for this setup, yet in a chart on the website it says it is. Also, the website says the doorbell should be run off an AC transformer, but the DIN Rail Transformer for Wired Video Doorbells (2nd Generation) converts to 24vDC. Can anyone clarify this for me please. Thanks in advance.

@Kekaad. Your plan sounds ok and should work. Its the same way I have mine set up. Ring doorbells can run off AC or DC voltage. In fact the old version of the DIN rail transformer was AC. The gen 2 that you can buy now (and comes with the Pro 2) is DC doing the conversion at the transformer rather than the Doorbell. The Pro Power Kit has always been a grey area in the UK. Its not even supplied with the Pro2 units sold in the UK and from my understanding is meant for 110/120v systems like the USA. In your setup you shouldn't need it.

Ring Doorbell wired cannot ring a wired chime - all you need to do is run a cable directly from the transformer to the doorbell.

Thanks everyone . That's cleared up the confusion I was having. I have just looked at the doorbell closer and see that it will run DC. I only glanced initially and saw just the AC markings. ( it is actually a present for Christmas, so didn't want to get everything out of all the boxes, I would have been too tempted to install it straight away lol). Thanks again.

Hi @Kekaad. The Pro Power Kit should **only** be used with the Video Doorbell Pro, so this is not needed in your case. For the Video Doorbell Wired, you can use the [Ring Plug-In Adapter](https://en-uk.ring.com/collections/accessories/products/video-doorbell-plug-in-adapter-gen-2) or you can wire it directly to a [transformer](https://en-uk.ring.com/collections/accessories/products/din-rail-transformer-gen-2) for power supply. You can find installation instructions for the Doorbell Wired [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360054984332-Installing-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Wired) to see how to install it using the transformer you purchased or the Plug-In Adapter.
