Ring Video Doorbell
Ring Doorbell 2 - Battery 100% Firmware update - DEAD
My Ring Video Doorbell 2 stopped working a few days ago, no low battery warning as it usually does. So I took the battery out and re-charged it - only took a few hours and green light came on. It would still not work spoke to support and they said do a factory reset, which I did joined it backup at which point it said doing a firmware update - and since then it has not worked since. It is totally dead If I put the battery in I get 4 flashes of blue light and then nothing, I can’t factory reset it it or anything now, spoke to support who said I was out of warranty and would just have to buy a new one! Has anyone else had this problem? I don’t think the tone of this message shows how mad I am - but Ring have killed my doorbell and their answer is to just buy a new one - with this 30% code we can give you Thanks

Same problem here. I can do the factory reset, everything connects, it even connects to wifi. Then it says updating firmware and after nothing. If I shove the battery in it will blink a few times blue (as it is booting) and dies. Since it attempts to boot that means the problem in the firmware. It can boot after the factory reset, so the original firmware is fine. Hence, the broken boot comes with the update. It seems that Ring has a bug in their update and doesn't want to deal with it. They would prefer if people bought a new item.

Yep, same here. Although mine seems to stay connected from anywhere to a day to a week before shutting down. Battery isn’t getting below 85% so I’m putting it down to firmware update.

Hi neighbors! Thank you for sharing what troubleshooting steps you've already tried. A full reset is always a good start when it comes to problems like these, and if you've tried that but the Doorbell still isn't responsive, I'd recommend touching base with our support team so they can take a more in-depth look. You can give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). We’re taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19, so this has resulted in longer than normal wait times. If you are outside of the US, please read our response to COVID-19 [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360041597471) to see how to contact support.

I did more digging with Ring customer support. Turns out there was a new version release that bricks the device. If we replace the version on my device with the previous everything works. However, the next day ring automatically overwrites the settings to the latest available version and the device is dead again. They have no means to fix the version for my device (which is odd, since it should be very basic functionality). In any case, they tell me to buy a new device. I am very disappointed with the company's ethics! It is clear that my device works with the version that it came with and not with the new release. They say that something is wrong with my device and it is out of warranty. As far as I know, something may have been wrong with it all along it just never showed up in the previous version. Or maybe they have an if statement that checks if the device is 2 years old and bricks it. It seems that it should not be my problem that clearly the latest version kills my device.

Yes, I'm having the same problem and Ring support offered the same, unacceptable solution. Ring needs to stand behind their products becoming inoperable by their poorly programmed firmware updates. I'm looking at other options to Ring devices, unless Ring wants to do the right thing for their customers.
