Ring Video Doorbell
Had to use VPN with Comcast / Xfinity
Couldn't get our Ring doorbells to work with Comcast / Xfinity. After many hours of troubleshooting, discovered that if we put the Ring doorbells (and our August locks and our Lillio app) on a VPN, then things start working just fine. Comcast turned off SecureEdge for us but that didn't seem to fix anything. I don't know why this one ISP seems to have problems letting these apps & devices connect to their cloud servers but, I've seen several other posts where people are describing what seems like this same issue. Luckily, once we figure out what the issue seemed to be and that using a VPN would bypass the problem, it turned out that our mesh router system would let us configure the VPN client for the network and then let us select which devices should use the VPN (you know, because there's no way to install a VPN client on a Ring doorbell or an August lock). Just wanted to pass this along in case anyone else is still struggling with this issue.
