Email from Ring to upgrade

I received an email from ring this morning asking me to upgrade my app, but I have to use Android 9 for the new app. I am using an old Samsung S7 and it is unlikely that it can use Adnroid 9, I am on Android 8, and Samsung Experience Version 9, Ring app 3.49.0. It seem to be working all right for now, what problem will I likely to have in future. I am a bit reluctant to change my phone £500+ just because Ring app wants me to. I'd rather do without Ring.

It's recommended to be on the latest version of your mobile device's operating system (OS) as well as the Ring app. You may continue to use the Ring app on Android 8, but you will not receive important security and performance updates. If you don’t wish to use an unsupported version of the Ring app, you can use Ring.com or the latest version of the Ring app on an Android device that Ring does support.
