Stick up cam with Solar Panel
So I've installed all and had a fully charged battery in it.. during the day it connects to the solar panel according to the app, but once the sun goes down.. my battery life goes down immediately and by morning its dead.. so each day I've been having to replace it with another one. Why is this happening.. what is wrong with this thing.. I mean i have the doorbell and that one last a very long time. Not the 6 months it says they will last though.. how can i make them last. and still get my alerts? How can this issue be fixed.. as i am tired of going up there every morning to replace the battery and also, what kind of security do i really have at night being its dying during the night. What is it.

ok.. so its about 70 motions.. i have it only set to get motion if it sees a person. about 20 or so live views since 7:20 last night. is there another setting i am missing? I mean my ring doorbell last longer, but not the 6 months though as it says online.

C@littlemom If you're receiving about 70 events per day, with about 20 Live Views, then the battery will drain much more quickly. You can try to reduce the number of motion events your Ring is experiencing on a daily basis by lowering the sensitivity and changing the [Motion Frequency](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003477106-Understanding-and-Optimizing-Motion-Detection-with-Motion-Frequency) to Light. The battery can last up to 6 months, but it all depends on how many events and Live Views the Ring experiences each day, which will be different for every device and home.

Lok.. so on the Stick up camera settings it doesn't have a motion frequency.. only the Ring doorbell does? last night i turned down the motion sensitivity to the lowest setting and turned off the people only mode and it still this morning was down to almost nothing.. which means I will need to change out the battery once again. My doorbell was already on light for its frequency but i still have to change that battery every other week i believe it is.

C@littlemom The Motion Frequency setting should be available under the Motion Settings option when you open the Ring App \> Main Menu \> Devices \> Stick Up Cam \> Motion Settings. I would also highly suggest giving our support team a call at one of the numbers available[here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). A member of our support team can go over your settings step-by-step in order to reduce the number of events your devices are experiencing. Reducing the number of events will prevent the battery from draining as quickly. We’re taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19, so this has resulted in longer than normal wait times. If you are outside of the US, please read our response to COVID-19[here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360041597471) to see how to contact support.

Lok.. so i set that up to help with less motions but once again.. by this morning my camera is dead? is there something wrong with the camera cause I've used one of the extra batterys for my doorbell and didn't have this issue. so i don't think its the battery. And when the sun is up and i put in the new battery it is saying its at 100% being its like its plugged into the wall, but the minute the sun goes down and it the power level shoots down. What is going on here. Something isn't working properly.

Have you found a solution yet? I have a week-old stick up cam and am having the same issue. It works fine during the day, but dies as soon as the sun goes down , then back the next morning. I get maybe 5 events and 1 live view per 24/hrs. Its like the solar panel isn’t handing off to the battery.

KExact same problem on my end. After receiving two Stick up cams last week changing out batteries does make any difference. Battery so dead in the morning it doesnt even charge to more than 27% in a full day sun

LMy solution was to buy a cord for it and plug it in.. cause nothing seems to work. What is the point of having a security camera if it keeps dying during the time you really need it most because you are sleeping. The really need to fix this issue.. cause no matter how much sun this thing gets it just kills the battery off even quicker. Matter of fact just last night we forgot to plug it back in and guess what.. it didn't die. So thats something to think about... it almost seems like the solar panel drains it.

LI just ended up getting a cord for it and don't have to worry about it at all.. cause the Solar panel is useless.

KHi there, I was in contact with Ring customer care and they gave me a tip that does seem to work for me after monitoring it for the last couple of days. Reinstall the Ring Stick Cam altogether (not mandatory but good to do anyways I guess) but make sure set "Power Mode" to -Battery- in the general settings of that particular device in the Ring App. After doing so my battery does not drain anymore. And when asked during or after installation by the Ring app if you want to change the Power Mode to wired as the device has found out is is being fed by power through the solor, keep in to Battery all the time. Give it a try, so far I am positive and so far it seems this did it for me. Btw, I did take out the battery's to give them a full 100% charge externally before running this procedure

Hi @littlemom. The battery on your Stick Up Cam should definitely not be draining every night. Approximately how many events does your Camera experience each day between motions and Live Views? You can check this by looking at the Event History log in the Ring App. I would also advise you to reset the Camera by holding down the setup button for at least 20 seconds. After that's done, you can navigate to the Device Health screen and select the Reconnect to WiFi option to get it back up and running.
