Ring Security Cameras
Spotlight Cam Wired - battery backup
Hi there, I plan to buy a Spotlight Cam. Probably the wired would be a good option - solar is the alternative for me - I just want to see if it is possible to use battery backup with the wired one, or is it still "only wired" and goes down with a power outage? (I've found an almost 1 year old related question, but maybe there were some developments... Battery backup option would be nice to bridge power outages.) Thanks! MJ

Hi neighbors! The Spotlight Cam Wired is powered using the provided power cable. It cannot have a battery installed to use as a different power source, as it only uses the power cable that comes with the Spotlight Cam. I hope this helps answer your question. :)

DRing This is not a great design. By providing the battery kit in the hardwired unit, the user would be able to use the security camera during a power outage (the first thing to go during a burglary). In addition, the power can be connected to a switched floodlight to be charged whenever the floodlight is switched on. An ideal unit would have a hardwire kit with a battery as backup, that has the same battery life as the batter powered unit. Essentially, it is the battery device with an optional hardwire kit.
