Solar Panel not keeping battery charge on Stick up Cam - fully charged battery drains in 1 day
Stick Up Cam connected to Solar Panel is not keeping battery charged. 2 different, new , fully charged batteries were drained in 1 day. I am in Florida - so cold is not an issue. Days are mostly sunny with a few cloudy days. Tech support indicated that solar panel is working properly when they ran diagnostics on the duo. During sunny day I get a minimal charge ( still red) by end of day.

Hi neighbors. I was able to find this Community [post](https://community.ring.com/t/outdoor-stick-up-cameras-battery-keeps-dying-even-with-solar-panel/13352/8) where other neighbors had a similar concern. There is a solution with troubleshooting steps to try. I also recommend checking that you have set its [power mode](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045463592-Changing-power-modes-on-your-Ring-Stick-Up-Cam-3rd-generation-) to battery and not wired, as that is the proper setting for a Stick-up Cam connected to a Solar Panel. If it's connected to a Solar Panel and you have it set to wired, it will drain the battery quickly. If you have tried these steps and are still having the same concern, give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406#callus) for further assistance. If you are outside of the US, please visit [here ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/213608406)to see how to contact support.

I recently bought the 1.9W Ring solar panel because I live in sunny south eastern Spain. On the first day it charged my Spot Cam battery up to 100% within 3 hours, but the following 2 days it did nothing and the camera battery charge only kept dropping right down to 40%. Actually the battery charge dropped so fast compared to not using a solar panel that I suspect the solar panel was somehow draining the cameras battery instead of charging it. So, since I have USB-C volt/current meter, I connected the solar panel to it with the panel facing the bright sun. The maximum voltage I could measure on the USB-C output was only just over 2 Volt without any load (which is far lower than the needed 5V), so I returned the panel which I bought via Amazon. I've ordered a compatible 3rd party 5W panel instead that doesn't have raised plastic ridges where water and dirt can collect as on the Ring panel, so hopefully that'll work better when it arrives. It also has a 10ft power cable which is better than the thin 2m cable on the Ring solar panel which was just too short for the location I needed to mount it which required me having to use another extension cable. In hindsight, I should've also measured the current (and it's direction) flowing through the USB cable with the camera attached to prove if the solar panel was draining the battery or not. Too late for that now.

Hi @perlman. We do not recommend using third-party solar panels with our Cameras. Even if they do work, we do not provide support or troubleshoot them with our Cameras. I strongly suggest using Ring-branded Solar Panels with our Cameras.
