Video storage
hardwired-video-doorbell

A few years ago my house was broken into and robbed. When the police investigated to do fingerprints and take information they asked if I had any security video system for the house I told them I had ring they said you can you can go back in history and look it up and we can find these people who broke into your house. When I called ring to find out if I could access this history they said yes you have unlimited video storage you can go back as far as you'd like the. This was great and very helpful and it led to the investigation and finding these criminals who broke into our house and stole everything. Three years later I had another situation. For the past three months apparently there's been a one inch water line that feeds our hoses in the back garden that has been leaking. The water company alleged that they came by in June 8th to look at the meter to see what was wrong with it and to tell us inform us that there is a problem with your water system it's using too much water and you need to investigate. We never received this notification and for three months we lost over a 250,XXXXXXXXXX gallons of water. Of which the water company wants us to pay over $6000. And the repairs to the water lines in our yard will cost us over $10,XXXXXXXXXX. In the process of trying to understand why the municipal water company wouldn't notify us in an other way over since June we were notified finally on September 5th that there's still a huge amount of water leaking on your property. The leak is 10 feet underground and no water was noticed anywhere on the property. So I go to my ring camera to find out if this person actually put a notice on our door which we never received and I can't do it because my video settings are only saved for 60 days. I was never given notice that the videos were no longer available for an extended amount of time but limited to 60 days and if you want to change it you have to go in and edit it. Because ring never notified me of their their policy changes I'm out over $16,XXXXXXXXXX because I can't make a proof to the municipal water company that they even came here and gave us a warning. Communication is the biggest problem with corporations these days changes are made and nothing is sent out to the users of these changes you're just expected to know them. I called rings competition, and they said they have unlimited video storage there's no problem you can go back for years. I checked out their videos and their resolution is incredibly much clearer than ring. I think it's time that I'm going to change and leave ring and go to their competitors because of this miscommunication. Ring and other corporations need to do a better job communicating to their customers

Hi @user_0d1285. I'm sorry to hear about the situation you're in with this water line, and I hope you can find a resolution with the water company. Video storage, which requires an active Ring subscription, has never been unlimited. The default video storage time for the US is currently 60 days, though you can extend this up to 180 days. Our recommendation is always to download any videos you need to keep, either to your phone or computer.
