Setting up Protect Plan as shared owner of doorbell

Hi. I'm getting nowhere trying to set up a basic Protect Plan. As husband & I are shared owners of doorbell so we can both view door we keep getting to point where the system just says has to be done by owner on both phones not giving ability to subscribe, Please help spent an hour trying to sort out what should be a simple request.
