Modes are settings in the Ring app that can control the behavior of all of your Ring devices. The idea is to configure your home Cameras and Doorbells to protect your home in different ways, depending on your current needs. There are three different Modes available for your Ring Doorbells or Security Cameras. ***As you navigate this article, click on the arrows below to reveal more information!*** **Disarmed** Select Disarmed Mode when you’re at home and want the freedom to go in and out of your house easily. You can decide whether or not each of your Cameras or Doorbells detects motion. [details="For Ring Alarm users:"] - When Disarmed Mode is selected, no Alarm sensors in your home will be armed and no alerts will be sent to the monitoring station, but the system will still be powered on and functioning. Fire and CO sensors (if they are attached to the system) will still be monitored. [/details] **Home Mode** Select Home Mode when you want the outside Cameras or Doorbells of your house activated, but want to be able to move freely around the inside of your home. You can decide whether or not each of your Cameras or Doorbells detects motion. [details="For Ring Alarm Users:"] - In Home Mode, only certain sensors will be armed. You can also control which sensors will be monitored in Home mode by visiting Mode Settings in the Ring app. [/details] **Away Mode** Select Away Mode to fully secure your house when you leave. You can set all of your Cameras or Doorbells, both inside and out, to record your home in this mode. You can decide whether or not each of your Cameras or Doorbells detects motion. [details="For Ring Alarm users:"] - When Away Mode is turned on, all of your sensors will be armed and an alert will be issued if any of them detect a security issue. You can also control which sensors will be monitored in Away mode by visiting Mode Settings in the Ring app. [/details] **Note:** You are not forced to use any default setting as-is. Each part of these settings is customizable depending on your needs and preferences. Each device also has mode controls that can be set individually, that can be accessed from the Device Dashboard. [details="How do I configure Modes?"] There is a global control that lets you configure all of your devices at once. To get to this control, follow these instructions: * Open the Ring app. * Tap the three-lines the upper-right corner. * Tap **Settings**. * Tap **Enable Modes**. * Tap the Mode you want to configure. * Set how you want your devices to behave in that Mode. [/details] [details="How do I disable Modes"] * Open the Ring app. * Tap the three-lines in the upper-right corner. * Tap **Settings**. * On the **Modes** page you will see **Mode Settings**. * The Disable Modes function is below Shared User Access. * You may have to scroll up to see the Disable Modes setting. * Tap the red **Disable Modes** button on the bottom of the screen. [/details] [details="How do I individually adjust Modes?"] To access devices individually and adjust Modes in the Ring app: * Tap the three lines on the top left. * Tap **Devices**. * Tap the device you want to adjust. * Tap the **Modes Settings** tile. * Customize device setting according to your home needs. I’m new to Ring but have noticed some curious behaviour when customising Mode settings. My first device a few weeks ago was a Battery Video Doorbell Pro. This is working great and I enabled modes and customised some settings OK. I have just installed a second device - a Floodlight Cam Wired Pro, which installed OK and is working. However, after installation I tried to amend its mode settings and my amendments would not save - I got a “Hmm - looks like something is wrong” message. In fact I then could not amend any of the mode settings on the Doorbell Pro either (same error message). I tried this using both the Ring iPhone app and the Ring website dashboard on my laptop - neither worked. Restarting the devices made no difference. What did resolve the issue was disabling modes completely, and then re-enabling. Both devices can now have their mode settings customised and saved. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue, and also whether there is a problem with incorporating new devices into a location when modes are enabled?

Hi @user82456. Thanks for sharing the solution that worked for you! Sometimes errors can occur. Disabling and re-enabling the Modes setting would have been what we suggested you try, so I’m glad to hear it took care of the issue.
