Using Ring Alarm Pro with Router

I am setting up a Ring Alarm Pro, but my home is on a network with switches (routers). I would like to source my internet off of one of the available ports on my network router. So far, it isn't connecting. Should I be able to do this?

gonpostal, Did you ever get a solution to this? I would think that to the Ring Alarm, one of the ethernet ports on your router should look just like the the ethernet port on your modem. If this still doesn't work for you then I may not want a Ring Alarm. (I had intended to use a pfSense system to create a subnet for the Ring Alarm and the rest of the home automation.)
