Hello @joshp123 , No, it actually does indeed mean to place it **at least 0.5 inches** (1/2") from the ceiling, because it needs that little minimum amount of space for when you need to replace the batteries in 3 years. The Motion Sensor needs to slide upwards a little for you to remove it from its mounting bracket which is fixed to the wall. Without that 1/2 inch space, it can't move up enough to detach it off the bracket. Alarm Motion Sensors (2nd Gen) have a recommended mounting height of 7' 6" above the floor. But if you have low ceilings or Crown Molding, you might not be able to go high enough to get this 7-1/2 feet. You should then mount if as high as the ceiling/molding allows while still leaving the needed 1/2" space above the sensor. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. :)
