Motion sensor detecting small cat
troubleshooting
motion-settings

Hello. I have the original ring alarm system. The motion detector in the hallway is detecting my new cat and setting the alarm off. I have set it to the least sensitive setting, which is for large dogs, but my small cat is still setting it off. I think it is when the cat goes up or down the stairs, maybe then she appears bigger?? Is there anything I can do? Is the newer motion detector any better? Don’t trust to set the alarm at the moment. Many thanks Rob

Hi there, @Rob.Dav! The best way to adjust your Motion Detector for pets is via mounting height, angle, and motion settings. Great job adjusting your settings. Next, see if there is any alteration with mounting you can make. Check out our [Help Center article](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404638571796) about Pets and the Motion Detector for more tips. I hope this helps! :)

Hi. Thanks for the reply. The sensor is in the hallway fitted in the corner using the corner mount. It is as high as it can go. It triggered the alarm today so I have now disabled it as I can’t trust it. What else can I do? Many thanks

Thanks for trying those steps. Other than altering the Motion Detector settings and mounting, another option is changing the layout to better suit the environment with pets. The Ring Alarm is intended to be most beneficial by placing and using the right Alarm components where best fit. For instance, perhaps Contact Sensors would work better in this area of the home, in which your Motion Detector could then cover a different area. If you feel that the Motion Detector is not functioning as it should, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406).
