You may use a 3rd party Contact Sensor, but it will show as a binary sensor in the app. This means it will be limited to it's primary function of "open" or "closed". Keep in mind, the professional monitoring for Alarm only monitors Alarm branded devices, not 3rd party ones. I hope this helps!

Why is this the case? Why can't Ring just work with other contact sensors as intended, building a house and I don't want to stick up the ridiculous contact sensors everywhere. Would be nice to be able to use any Z-wave sensor.

Will 3rd party contact sensors chime if opened? My third party system chimes when I open a door these are zwave sensors that I would like to hook to a ring system instead

Good question, @LCollins! As stated prior in this thread, you may use a 3rd party Contact Sensor. To add to this, we do not guarantee the status of that 3rd party sensor in the Ring app. The sensor may show as you wish, but also could show as binary, or with limited functionality. As a reminder, the professional monitoring for Alarm only monitors Alarm branded devices, not 3rd party ones. Feel free to let us know what you accomplished with the 3rd party devices! :)

I had z-waev light switches on my ADT system and have added them to ring. First you have to remove them from their existing network. Go to Devices/Alarm Base Station/Base station. From the gear menu select advanced options/z-wave/remove z-wave device. Press remove then turn on the device and it will be removed. They you can add it to your Ring network
