Ring Alarm
Factory reset First Alert zwave smoke and carbon monoxide alarm?
Can anyone tell me how to factory reset a First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm? Instructions tell me to push the button at the top of the detector. I can't find any button. I did the open battery compartment, remove and replace batteries, hold test button while pushing in tray, etc. I can remove these devices from my system, but every time I try to add them back they join the wrong network.

To reset the First Alert Smoke & CO Detector, hold down the test button for at least 10 seconds. This will reset all the Z-Wave settings and cause the device to be removed from the Z-Wave Network. If that doesn't work, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here for more in-depth troubleshooting assistance.

BThe reset instructions shown above are not universal for all First Alert alarms. I called customer support and they asked me to pull the battery tray out, press & hold the reset button, then slide the battery tray back in while holding down the button until I heard the beep. After doing that, I could add the detector to my Ring system. Also, note that the detector will appear a two devices -- one for CO, and the other for smoke.

Resetting will remove the device from the Z-Wave Network. Now, when I try to add it again, I see a message that says the device is connected to the wrong network.

Had to replace my 1st gen base station due to power issue. Only took Ring 4 tries to get the base station to me. (just venting)... but I was able to figure out the method not found anywhere online nor written on the original leaflet. To reset the First Alert ZCOMBO (1st gen from Costco, which is specially meant to work with Ring) 1. Slide the battery tray out and install fresh batteries 2. Press and hold the "Test/Silence" button 3. Slide the battery tray back in 4. Continue to hold the "Test/Silence" button and wait (about 10 second) for a long beep, then release the "Test/Silence" button once the long beep stops 5. Slide the battery tray out once again 6. Wait 10 seconds 7. Go to the Ring app and follow the prompt to add the alarm 8. Tap "add" on the Ring app 9. Press and hold "Test/Silence" button 10. Slide the battery tray back in, count to 3, then release the "Test/Silence" button 11. If successful with step 10, the app should indicate "configuring device", then follow the prompt to complete the setup. (If step 11, fails, repeat steps 5 ~ 11) Sorry, this was a bit winded instructions, but hope this helps you or anyone out there struggling with this :)

UI just wanted to thank you to no end for this. After spending about 4 hours on regular and advanced tech support with Ring, who had me try a number of things they "had access to" because as the advanced guy was telling me, "their browsers have been blocked to outside sources", they had me do various reset procedures multiple times and didn't work. I was doing the same thing, replacing a base station. Ultimately told me I had to contact First Alert, who says specifically on their website they will not help setting up with Ring. I came here searching and found your solution here, and even though I have 2nd gen FA detectors, it still worked and I got all 5 back online again! None of the solutions they had me try were exactly like yours. Thank you so much!!!! BTW the #10 step was the only part they didn't have me do.
