Ring Alarm
Alarm questions
Hello, I am interested in purchasing the ring alarm, I have a couple of what are likely stupid questions, but for some reason I can't find the answers anywhere. 1. If someone trips the motion or window/door sensors while the system is armed, does the base station set off the siren? Or do you just get a notification to your phone. If I am asleep and someone comes in the house, I want the alarm to go off, not to just send a notification to my phone. 2. I also have the ring doorbell, and a spotlight camera. If the system is armed and someone sets off the spotlight camera, does it set off the siren? Or does it just send a notification to the phone like it currently does. Can you choose which devices activate the alarm? I get a ton of false positives on the spotlight camera, and I would hate to have the alarm go off every time that happens. (Edit: after digging through the community I found that it will not trigger the siren on the spotlight camera) 3. Does the ring alarm have the capability to bypass iPhone do not disturb? I read that it does, but apparently the spotlight camera and doorbell do not? Thanks in advance for the help.

The answer above is laughable, and totally unacceptable. It's unbelievable that the video doorbell doesn't set off the alarm when the system -- of which it's clearly a central (arguably **THE** central) part -- is armed. This was not made clear before I purchased the system and it OBVIOUSLY should have been. Your robot-chat/first-step support offerings also evade the question, which has to be purposeful. I am not happy.

CHey @angrycustomer. Thank you for your feedback on this situation and your input. I will make sure that this is passed onto the appropriate teams for you so that they can be looked into for future to avoid possible confusion with how the integration between the two devices is. I will add on that you can utilize the Linked Devices feature in the Ring app to still link the Doorbell to the Alarm in a way that when the Alarm is going into entry delay or alarming, that the Doorbell starts recording. You can learn more about this feature in this article [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026206031-Linking-Your-Ring-Devices-Together-for-Enhanced-Security). If you are in need of immediate support, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). We're taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19. This has resulted in longer than normal wait times. If you are outside of the US, please read our response to COVID-19 [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360041597471) to see how to contact support. I apologize for the loop and lack of information you got from our chat bot.

AIn response to your reply, two points: This is I think more than simple confusion. I feel like Ring went out of their way to obscure this issue before the purchase. I also feel like the automatic elements of the support system evade giving a really direct response when the question is raised. ALSO.. Of course no one wants the alarm going off EVERY time anyone EVER comes to the door. What I was expecting was that I could set the system so it goes off every time anyone comes to the door during certain times that I specify. For instance: between Midnight and 6AM. Thanks.

C@angrycustomer I could see where you are coming from in this, so I appreciate the follow up on how you feel about the first point. This will be passed along for you as well! We are always striving to make the neighbor experience better for all of our neighbors, whether they've been around for years or are first time neighbors! In regards to the latter, I think that's a fantastic idea that I will ensure is passed along as well. Those late hours are critical when it comes to your security, so it's best to have the system the way you feel most secure. In addition, as we value our neighbors' feedback, we've created a [Feature Request](https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/idb-p/Feature_Request_Board) board. Feel free to add this and any future feature requests there. This will help us to organize and share your requests with our teams here, as well as allow other neighbors to comment and add interest, all in one place. It would be great to see if other neighbors are interested in the same feature as yourself!

These are all great questions @jjeffrie! I'll do my best to answer them in order. 1. Your Motion Detectors and Contact Sensors have the option to both notify your mobile device, and trigger your Alarm when triggered in an armed mode. There are mode settings within the Ring app which allow you to choose which Alarm Sensors are included in which modes. By default, all of your sensors should be included in the armed away mode. Your Motion Detectors will certainly initiate your Alarm Siren when triggered in an armed state, and, if you are being professionally monitored, will also result in dispatch for emergency alerts. 2. At this time, the Ring Video Doorbells and Cameras do not affect your Alarm modes or siren, and vice versa. We see this as a "Ring of security" where your Camera enabled devices will watch the perimeter of your home, while the Alarm covers the inside. Of course, notifications operate with both products and can be optimized via Ring app settings for the most awareness! 3. Yes! We recently released a feature which allows for emergency alerts to be received, even in do not disturb mode. At this time, this is for emergency Alarm alerts only. Check out our [help center article](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039406772-Getting-emergency-alerts-in-Do-Not-Disturb-mode) for the steps on enabling this in the Ring app. Speaking of help center, there are many articles throughout our help center that will expand on my answers above. If you have any further questions, feel free to search there or ask us here. We are always happy to help! :)
