New Ring Doorbell 3 Motion Detection Problems
Hello, I recently purchased and had the Ring Doorbell 3 installed. I have noticed that the motion detection is poor and misses quite a bit. When the doorbell was first installed, I customized the zone to my liking (avoiding the street and only encompassing my yard), left the motion settings as standard and enabled People Only Mode. Slowly I was noticing that as my wife and I (or anyone) walked up the driveway, the doorbell would not notify/record the motion until we were about halfway up our driveway. After realizing that there were events that were missed, I changed up the settings. I now have the motion sensitivity set to maximum, motion frequency set to frequently and I disabled People Only Mode. I even expanded the motion zone to encompass part of the street in front of my house but not enough to catch every single car driving by. I continue to have these problems. Just today, I had a package delivered at our house. I was notified of the motion because the postal vehicle tires were in the zone in the street at the base of our driveway. The Ring recorded the postal vehicle driving up and parking at our the base of our driveway, but then the recording stopped and never recorded the driver walking up the driveway, approaching the front door and setting the package on the porch right in camera view. Is there a way to troubleshoot the system or fix this issue? Less than a week after install, I am all but impressed with this product.

I went through the settings once more, and now I turned off the advanced motion zones. I went back to the standard motion zone, and hoping that could help. What's annoying is that now I get all of the notifications for cars driving by in the street. I would set up an alerts schedule, but I work shift-work and there is no normalcy in my life. There's no way to set up a consistent alert schedule.

Hi neighbors! When it comes to motion detection, it will take some trial and error to find what works best for you as everyone's home and environment are different, so what works for one neighbor may not work for another. We have a guide on how to optimize the motion detection for your Doorbell [here](https://community.ring.com/t/caitlyn-s-guide-to-optimizing-your-doorbell-s-motion-detection/48107), which has some helpful tips on how to adjust and fine-tune your settings. It's also important to verify you don't have motion detection turned off under the [Modes settings](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036107792-Control-All-of-Your-Ring-Devices-with-Modes), as this would prevent motion from being detected if you toggle to that Mode. If this concern persists or you have further questions on your Doorbell's motion please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406#callus). If you are outside of the US, please visit [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/213608406) to see how to contact support. :)

I too have suffered with all of the sensor problems and without resolution. This appears to be a very widespread problem with the Ring Doorbell 2/3 and 4! There are 1000’s of dissatisfied customers on this subject and it has been going on for at least 1 1/2 years. Nothing has been done to correct these sensor problems which leaves the consumer with a product that is not providing what the customer has paid for. They even produced a Ring Doorbell 4 which advertises better sensor capability, but I can attest it does NOT. It might be time to seek out a class action suit and bring all these complaints to this Company’s doorstep. Ring Doorbell should be taking an honest pursuit in either repairing the problem or taking responsibility for charging customers for a product that clearly does not meet their promises.

UYou are absolutely correct !! The Ring Doorbell Pro, 2, 3, and 4 simply DO NOT WORK TO DETECT ALL MOTION, even after adjusting the settings and WiFi. We should be given refunds.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but in the afternoon we get problems with shadows. I set my motion zones to avoid the street, too. But when the sun starts to drop, any passers by cast a shadow across our front garden and that triggers proximity alerts.
