Hello [@davidskene](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/92874) , You purchase a Ring Protect Plan subscription, either a "Basic" plan individually for each device or a "Plus" plan which would cover all your Ring devices (if they are all located at the same physical address). When you purchase your Ring devices, they automatically come with a free "One-month Trial" Basic Plan. [https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans](https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans) You can make this purchase online at Ring.com or use your Ring App. You don't need a subscription at all for your Ring devices to work, although you will not have features like Recorded past Videos or "Snapshot" pictures. Your camera will operate fine for "Live View", text-type 'pushed' Notifications / App Alert-Tone sounds to your Ring App, and the ability to talk/listen live with the camera.
