Ring Video Doorbell
Chime Started Buzzing.
I had a three doorbell setup. One Video Doorbell 2 (With Battery) in the outside front, One Video Doorbell 2 (Hard Wired) in the front PorchOne Video Doorbell 2 (with Battery) in the Back Porch. All doorbells were hard wired, including the ones with the battery. I believe I had the Pro Power Kit V1 installed in the Mechanical Chime. Everything was working fine, but over time we noticed some degradation of video quality in the Outside Front, and it stopped working. I decided to replace it with a Wired Doorbell Pro. The instructions said if you have an older Pro Power Kit to replace it with the new one, so I did. I got immediate buzzing in the mechanical chime during this process. I tightened all the wires at the front doorbell and the chime and the buzzing went away. Everything worked great for a week, then the buzzing came back. I once again re-tightened wires, again at the front doorbell and chime. We thought this may be rain related, so I did some caulking around the outside doorbell to clog up the exposed holes based on the size difference between the Wired Doorbell Pro and the Ring DoorBell 2. The buzzing went away for about a day. Nothing I did seemed to affect things; so now, I'm waiting for an electrician to call me back and the two front doorbells are not working at all. Anything I can do while waiting for the electrician? Edit: I previously stated all three original doorbells had a battery. That is not the case; the front porch one was hard wired only.

Thanks for the response! > All doorbells were hard wired, including the ones with the battery In case you need more clarification. I had three ring Doorbells all hard wired. I replaced a "Video Doorbell 2 (With Battery)" with the "Wired Doorbell Pro". All Doorbells remain hard wired. The mechanical chime is so old I have no idea what the make or model is. I assume it is >50+ years old, but here is a picture. I had an onTech Ring installer come out today and he bypassed the chime entirely, so I can't snap a photo with the Power Pro Kit V3 still attached. It was connected to the left and center screws. The Doorbells are working now, just the inside chime is no longer part of the equation. It is frustrating, especially after the setup worked fine for <5+ years. But I grudgingly accepted.

THi @reboog711. There's a few things to consider when wiring your doorbell to an ol chime kit. First, the wires have to be a compatible gauge. You can find information about that here. Instructions on how to correctly install this can be found here. You can also find information about wiring this directly to your transformer here. A buzzing noise is typically a power related concern so I would start with this information.

R@Tom_Ring I just want to highlight this setup worked fine for 5+ years. The problems only started after replacing a Video Doorbell 2 with a Wired Doorbell Pro; and replacing the Power Pro Kit (V1) with a Power Pro Kit (V3). Seems unlikely the issue is wire gauge. Nothing you linked me too is new information; it looks like the basic setup instructions which were followed to setup the new unit.

J@reboog711. It could have been an issue with the chime being incompatible with the Pro, which I can't say is the actual reason since we do not know the make and model of it. Since the chime has been bypassed now, I recommend looking into using a Ring Chime if you want something to ring inside. You can also use Echo devices to get audio alerts from your Ring devices.

I can't edit my original post, so a respond that I hope everyone reads. I gave RING's OnTech support a chance and hired them to come out and fix it. Twice during the appointment, I was told I needed to hire an electrician. I thought they were sending an electrician. The fix they set up--to bypass the mechanical chime--stopped working after about an hour after the technician left.

CHi @reboog711. If you are unhappy with your OnTech installation experience, I'd recommend providing feedback through their support channel. OnTech is not a part of Ring, so I cannot pass on that feedback for you. Bypassing the mechanical chime means the chime kit is no longer part of the doorbell circuit, and it will not ring when someone presses your Ring Doorbell. If your Doorbell is losing power, this points to an issue along the circuit, potentially the transformer. What is the rating on your transformer? The Video Doorbell 2, which you previously had, is compatible with transformers providing 8-24 VAC. The Wired Doorbell Pro requires a transformer providing 16-24 VAC.

Hi @reboog711. At the moment you have one Doorbell that is hardwired which is the Wired Doorbell Pro? Or you have two Doorbells hardwired? What is make and model of your Chime? Can you share a picture of how you have the Pro Power Kit installed?
