2 Questions about Ring Plug In Adapter for Video Doorbells
I own a Ring Doorbell 2 and I want to purchase the official Ring Plug In Adapter but have 2 questions. 1. The product page says its for Pro model only but the guide/manual that comes with the product says it works with Ring Doorbell 2, so which is correct? If this does indeed work with Doorbell 2 why does the product page and Amazon listing just say Pro model only and does not mention the other models? ( [https://ring.com/products/plug-in-adapter](https://ring.com/products/plug-in-adapter) ) 2. If I use this to power my Doorbell2 is a resistor needed in the wiring?

Thanks for the reply. The Q/A section of Amazon for the Ring Plug In Adapter claim no resistor is needed. I am confused, there is a lot of back and forth about this. The specs of the plug in adapter say "Comes with a 20-foot cable and built-in short-circuit protection." If the plug in adapter has built in protection then why is a resistor needed? How come Ring is the only doorbell camera that needs this resistor and other doorbell cameras do not?

MHey, @gt5! I've actually got a more up to date, and better answer for you on this one. The aforementioned thread regarding the use of a (Pro) Plug-In Adapter is no longer the solution needed for battery powered Doorbells. We just recently released our [Plug-In Adapter (2nd Gen)](https://ring.com/collections/accessories/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2) which is designed for use with battery powered Doorbell models, without the need for any resistor. Sorry for any confusion the last response may have caused, but this is certainly the best and newest solution for this! :)

GHi Marley Thanks for the update, but according to your own Support website its still not compatible with Ring Video Doorbell 2. [https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051708291-Ring-Plug-in-Adapter-2nd-Generation-](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051708291-Ring-Plug-in-Adapter-2nd-Generation-) _" **Which Ring Video Doorbells is the 2nd Generation Ring Plug-in Adapter compatible with?** _ _The Ring Plug-in Adapter (2nd Generation) is compatible with any battery powered Ring Video Doorbell except for the original Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation) and Ring Video Doorbell 2."_

MThank you for specifying this detail, @gt5! Correct, as stated there, those two models of Video Doorbell (Doorbell 1st gen & Doorbell 2) would not be supported. This should help other neighbors who might have the same question and model Doorbell as yourself.

Great questions, @gt5! While the Plug-in Adapter is designed for use with the Doorbell Pro, it can certainly be used to provide a charge to your battery powered Doorbell model. Check out this [Community thread](https://community.ring.com/t5/Video-Doorbells/Using-the-Ring-plug-in-adapter-amp-Ring-wirewound-resistor-with/m-p/47683) for tips and visual instructions on accomplishing this. In regards to the resistor, one will be needed when using the Plug-in Adapter with you battery powered Video Doorbell. I hope this helps! :)
