Trying to add an additional video camera to my home system and need some help

I purchased a Ring video camera from a certified auction house here in town that I have used several years ago and life/work got in the way and I never did anything with it. This morning decided to try to import it into my system and when I scanned the bar-code into the ring app it came back with "this camera is registered to someone else" reply. I had no idea that it was was not a new "open box" unit. Now supposedly its going to take up to 15 days for the old owner to give me permission (or not) to use what I purchased legally? What can I do if the previous owner does not reply? Thanks, Joe A
