Curb mounted camera

Has anyone mounted a camera at the base of their driveway near the curb? Is this legal? Are there known issues? A curb mounted camera would be close enough to the road and driveway to record detailed car into including license plates. Currently, house mounted camera do a great job recording somebody stealing a package or damaging property. But a house mounted camera does a poor job capturing detailed car info or license plates. If anyone has any plans for mounting a camera near their curb I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Mike
