Workaround for Ring Pro Base Station NOT connected to modem, yet still maintain backup internet?
My home already has an Eero Pro E6 (2 units) with 1 of the units connected directly to the modem, of course. Because I have a fiber connection, I am forced to have the modem where the fiber connection is. Unlike say, a cable modem, you can't extend the fiber optic connection with an extension cable. The problem is that fiber connection is in my garage, about 3 feet from garage door. From my research on the Ring Alarm Pro base station, you MUST connect directly to the modem. If you don't connect directly to modem, you might as well not even have Pro because the backup internet only works if connected to modem. If it's not connected directly to modem, the basic alarm features will still work but be the same as the regular alarm. For multiple reasons, having the Pro base station in the area I described is a bad idea. Aside from not hearing it (house is 3 floors, garage is 1st floor), I have security concerns as is it common for me to have to leave the garage door open for the entire day if say, the pool guy is working on equipment (which is in garage) or my contractor who has to do some plumbing work in a couple weeks. I want the base station on the 2nd or 3rd floor, not the garage. Is there any workaround for the Ring Alarm Pro to maintain all features - such as backup internet - even if it is not connected directly to modem?

Thanks. I looked over that page you linked to an am a bit confused. It says this near the margin: "If you have an existing eero mesh network setup, we generally recommend adding Alarm Pro as an extender instead of replacing your eero gateway device. Doing so allows you to preserve existing eero features while still supporting Alarm Pro’s advanced functionality listed Alarm Pro Advanced Features Based on wifi Network Configuration chart below. During an Internet Service Provider (ISP) outage, Alarm Pro takes over as the gateway and provides 24/7 Backup Internet1 connectivity to your eero network. When the internet outage ends, your gateway eero device will resume control of managing your network connectivity and your Alarm Pro will resume extending your eero mesh network." Maybe I'm just stupid but to me, this sounds like if you have Eero routers, the backup cellular internet feature will work, even if your Alarm Pro base station is NOT directly connected to the modem. Is my understanding correct? Because if so, it contradicts this page where it says: "Note: We do not recommend using Ring Alarm Pro as a wifi extender for your existing router. Using your Alarm Pro as an extender will prevent you from accessing many of the Protect Pro subscription features, including 24/7 Cellular Backup Internet." In other words, is the above information incorrect? Should it really say: Note: We do not recommend using Ring Alarm Pro as a wifi extender for your existing router [if your existing router is non-Eero].

Sorry Tom, I still don't understand. You are talking about extenders. To recap, this is situation; 1. Eero is plugged into modem in garage. 2. If I bought Ring Alarm Pro base station and set it up on the floor above (therefore NOT plugged into model) would the backup internet still work? Thank you

J@user_8f4cdc. I recommend going over this Help Center page. It will go over alternate Alarm Pro configurations and what features you could lose depending on your setup.

UNeither you or Tom are answering my very direct question. Your service is awful. I have read the pages linked and in fact, read them before even posting. They are not clear and contradict themselves, as I pointed out above. So I'll ask again: 1. Eero is plugged into modem in garage. 2. If I bought Ring Alarm Pro base station and set it up on the floor above (therefore NOT plugged into model) would the backup internet still work?

Hi @user_8f4cdc. This Help Center page has alternate Alarm Pro eero Wi-Fi network configuration options. These are the only alternate methods available.
