Just bought this. Am I correct in thinking this is somewhat useless until I subscribe to Ring Secure? I want my mobile to alert me when the bell is pushed and I can speak to the caller?

Hi @Trugmaker. The Ring Video Doorbell can be used without a Ring Protect plan. You can turn push notifications on and access the Live View to speak with visitors at your door. You can turn push notifications on under Devices > your Doorbell > toggle Motion Alerts and Ring Alerts on. Make sure to check the notification permissions in your phone's settings as well. [Live View](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208144516-Using-Live-View) can be activated by tapping on a motion or ring notification right after it comes in, or opening the Ring app and tapping Live View for your Doorbell. To have access to video recording, so you can view recordings of events after they have happened, you will need to subscribe to a Ring Protect plan. You can learn more about the features provided by the Ring Protect plans [here](https://ring.com/protect-plans). I hope this helps answer your questions.
