Ring Video Doorbell
New Ring Gen2 Video Door bell
Installed 2 days ago. Easy Set up / configuration, and works well with Ring app and Alexa. Configured to announce on all my Echo Dot devices. It's hard wired to 24VAC, and Device Health shows hardwired - XXXX% charged. When I installed it, I just connected the 2 wires from the old push button switch to the Gen 2 Ring device, removed the old push button switch. Pressing the Ring button does not activate my old door bell, which is a simple mechanical / solenoid striker. Any hints on how to get the old sounder to make noise? Thanks,

Hi @user_3c5af6. I'd recommend checking that the specific chime kit you have is on the compatibility list for the Video Doorbell 2nd Gen. If the chime kit is incompatible, this would be a reason why it does not ring when the button is pressed. I'd also suggest inspecting the wiring and chime kit to make sure there is no damage, and that everything is in good working order.

UHi C_R, Thanks for the answer. The existing door chime is 18 years old, it's just a basic mechanical door bell = ding-dong, not digital, nothing exotic. It's mounted quite high (14 foot ceiling), so I guess I need to get up there and see if there's a visible model number. Thanks,

C@user_3c5af6 It's possible it is an incompatible model. Feel free to share an update here once you're able to check the chime kit and the wiring.

Problem resolved. Found a routine in the Ring app to test the chime, followed the bouncing ball and the chime now rings as it should.. THANKS....
