I’m thinking of upgrading at our front door from an original Ring doorbell to a Ring doorbell 3, and placing the original doorbell near the back door. Can anyone point me to instructions on how to do that and get them working together?

Hi @a4edb4316d7f55fab64e. This Help Center article [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042031971-How-to-Connect-Your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-3-Directly-to-a-Low-Voltage-Transformer-Without-a-Pre-existing-Doorbell-) outlines a few different wiring diagrams that may fit your needs. I would look at these to get you pointed in the right direction. Remember to always shut off power when wiring the Ring Doorbell and if needed, contact a licensed and trusted electrician. I hope this helps!

Thanks, Tom. If I wire the doorbell and it doesn’t activate the house chime, I don’t mind because I use the doorbell with a Ring Chime Pro. But even though the house chime doesn’t work with the Ring doorbell, does the wiring still power the Ring doorbell and charge the battery? How do I test to confirm that the wiring is powering the doorbell?

Hi @a4edb4316d7f55fab64e, happy to chime in here. I want to clarify that when you hardwire a battery powered Ring Doorbell, it will still be powered by the battery, not the wiring. The doorbell wiring can help provide a trickle charge to extend the amount of time between charges. If you have an existing doorbell circuit already, you can follow the instructions here to install the Doorbell 3 to this wiring. If you want to exclude the chime kit in your home, or you don’t have a chime kit, then you’ll want to follow these instructions for wiring the Doorbell 3 directly to a low voltage transformer. Let me know if you have any other questions!
