Mine worked fine for the first couple of months, then the humming/buzzing started at the chime box. It also half rings every so often. I would also like to know how to fix this. It is rather annoying.

Yes, exact same issue as you both describe.

I've been experiencing the same issue. I even replaced a rather old chime with a new one, thinking a "modern" transformer might solve the problem. I noticed with mine that the humming or buzz of the transformer really intensified at night. I've begun to experiment with leaving the outside lights on and that seems to reduce/eliminate the issue. While it may work, I'm not sure my neighbors will appreciate that solution! Would certainly like to find a better fix.

Now that you mentioned that yours buzzing happens at night, I realized that is the only time mine does it. Nothing at my house changes from day to night, so I'm now thinking it must have something to do with the night vision.

Nothing at my house changes from day to night, so I'm now thinking it must have something to do with the night vision. I think that you are on the right track with night vision being a factor - at night (when it's very dark) there are 3 IR illuminators on the Pro that run and that takes extra power to run them. If the mechanical chime is humming it suggests to me that this additional power reqiurement is going through the mechanical chime instead of being "managed" by the Power Kit. AND - starving the Pro of the power it needs isn't good for longevity of the device. There's a small battery in the Pro - normally all it ever has to do is keep the Pro connected when someone actually rings the doorbell (a very short amount of time) but if the Pro doesn't get enough power from the transformer at other times it will discharge this battery trying to stay running. When it can it recharges the battery but the battery (as with ANY Lithium battery) can only withstand a finite number of discharge / recharge cycles and once you exceed that, capacity is diminshed and eventually it won't hold a charge at all. If that happens, you may not be able to install firmware updates (another time of high power requirements) and end up bricking the Pro. I would start addressing this by making certain you have the right transformer (16V - 30VA or 24V-45VA), that your wiring is of a sufficient gauge that power loss through the wiring is not a factor, that all your connections are tight and that the wire is making good contact with the terminals, that you have an approved mechanical chime, and that the Power Kit is properly installed (it's not an option to use the Power Kit - its a requirement). If all of this is correct then you should not be getting a hum from the chime - not at night when the IR illuminators are turned on, nor at any other time for that matter.

I immediately noticed a hum when I installed my new Ring Doorbell Pro. The mechanical chime I had was older, so I replaced it with one on the list of chimes Ring claimed would work. The hum was there again, and at times louder. After some reading, I realized that due to the Pro Power Kit any wired chime would more than likely hum. My solution was to bypass the chime by wiring the Pro Power Kit directly inline with the Ring doorbell. Essentially, you insert the 'Front' and 'Trans' doorbell wires to the Bypass Mode wire terminals on the Pro Power Kit right at your indoor chime. For more information on bypassing , see this article: [https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005974466-How-to-Bypass-your-Internal-Doorbell-with-the-Pro-Power-Kit-V2-for-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005974466-How-to-Bypass-your-Internal-Doorbell-with-the-Pro-Power-Kit-V2-for-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-) I hung my old indoor chime cover over the exposed wires and Pro Power Kit, then I ordered a wireless chime from Ring that I'll configure into my system. Voilla. No more annoying hum. PS. When I originally installed my Ring Doorbell Pro, I upgraded my transformer to a 16V - 30VA.

I had the exact same problem. After one year of no issues at all, the Ring doorbell wouldn’t turn on and the doorbell chime would buzz and half ring every 30 seconds or so. Super annoying! It turned out that the wires connecting to the Ring doorbell was shorted! The wire insulation had worn out and the bare wires were touching each other. I was able to fix by wrapping electrical tape over the exposed parts of the wire.

TL;DR: Swapped red and white cables at Ring Doorbell, worked. NOTE: For each step below I diligently turned off breaker controlling doorbell. Lots of back and forth from garage (patch Panel) to porch (Ring Doorbell) to basement (transformer), but best to be safe! My experience: I installed battery operated original Ring with Pro 2 , because Version 1 only grabbed video's a few seconds after being triggered, kind of useless to see video after event already occurred! The original Ring was the fat battery version, and required the white and red wires plugged in (from old fashioned doorbell) to allow old fashioned doorbell chime (a Zenith Heath 95 Base, on approved list) to still ring. So red and was was not really to power unit but allow passthrough of ringing. When I swapped Version 1 for Version 2 Pro I kept white and red in same order. Installed new Ring Pro 2, including the little power kit device into the chime\bell. After initial setup was almost done it rang doorbell once (unprompted, almost like a "last test" it was doing" then Ring went 100% dead, would not ring doorbell or light up BUT the doorbell chime box was humming. Popped inside doorbell cover (not touching any wires), piston was bouncing up and down like crazy, but not ringing bell. Quickly shut off power at electrical (flipped appropriate breaker), and investigated at the door bell box. The piston was HOT and even slight smell. After reviewing possible issues online, bought 24v Transformer (under $20), replacing the 16v that has been in place at home 20 years. Very hopeful, seems logical, but unfortunately no change. Verified settings in RING APP was set to "Mechanical" Ringer. After searching for more ideas, someone said to swap red and white at the Ring Doorbell, that worked. That was the fix for me. Worth noting post-mortem that I made sure there was no "hotness" or funny smells (overheating smells) at the Door Chime or at the transformer (again, turn off main circuit so you do not get zapped) after all seemed well. Slight warm is okay and expected. The internet say " Transformers are always going to produce some heat. It's a part of the step-down process. **It should only be warm to the touch** , however. If it burns you, there's something seriously wrong". Seems logical.

I had the same problem as user66081 and even though my Battery Plus doorbell said the wire colors didn't matter which posts, it turned out it did! The humming went away after I swapped them. And now the in-home doorbell works along with the Ring.
