Hardwired Ring Gen 2 Doorbell not charging

Hi, I've had a gen 2 doorbell for a few years now in a mostly empty home. I'd set it up to just use battery since I was not able to locate the old doorbell wire. I could manually charge the battery and get at least a few months use out of it. I'm in the home more often now and while I was doing some work near the door, I noticed some odd looking stucco patching. I poked at it and it was hiding the old doorbell wires. I stripped them, touched them together, and heard the old mechanical doorbell ring. I checked the voltage, verified it was AC and hooked the Ring up to that. I fully charged the battery before mounting. Now, about 3 weeks later, the battery shows 3%, the doorbell does say it's hardwired (and rings the doorbell inside fine), but I don't even get a phone/watch/base unit notification when the button is pushed. It's also not sent any alerts about a low power condition or even a warning that the battery is low. Even at the current 3% charge I can start a live view w/o issue, so it's clearly communicating fine. Is this thing just dead? How can it have a shorter battery life when being constantly trickle-charged by the doorbell transformer? Where to even start with troubleshooting?
