Doorbells Feature Request

Update March 16, 2020: Attention neighbors! You may have noticed this thread no longer accepts new comments. No worries- as an exciting new part of the Community, we've created a Feature Request board. Feel free to share any future feature requests there. This will help us to organize and share your requests with our team, as well as allow other neighbors to comment and add interest, all in one place. Thank you! Hi neighbors! At Ring, we take feedback and feature request very seriously. That's why we're creating this special post, where you can share any wish list items you'd like to go with your current Ring device. We'll keep this post pinned to the top of the Doorbells board so you can easily access it. Be sure to do a quick search and see if your item is already on the list to avoid duplicates. If it is, go ahead and give it a 'kudo' so we know that is what you want too! Please note, that anything you disclose to us by commenting on this post will be the property of Ring. Please see our [Terms of Service](https://shop.ring.com/pages/terms) for more information. We look forward to hearing your feature requests! **Update February 12, 2020: ** Hi neighbors! Siren speaker built into doorbell, for the same reason it is built into the security cams. Can thwart theives from your door with the loud siren

Hello, I recently got a Ring Doorbell 2 to complement my existing ring setup (Ring Alarm, two Sitck Up Cams with solar panels and Floodlight Cam). So far I am really liking the doorbell though it is a bit of a nuisance to only hear the doorbell ring through the app on my phone. I know I can get a chime, but I already have a Ring alarm which has a pretty powerful speaker. I would _ **LOVE** _ to have the doorbell ring through the alarm base station and keypad. I honestly _assumed _ that this would automatically be the case - teach me to assume ;-) Thanks for the opportunity to offer a feature request!

yes! this is silly.. I have the keypad as well that plays other chirps - why not play doorbell press?? maybe cause they want you to buy the chime?? Makes no sense to me other than money.

I would feel sure that the keypad could have the ability to play a sound of some sout for doorbell rings but I would think it may not have the hardware and logic to do everything a Chime would do. The keypad is pretty simple and I am sure was developed to be easy and reasonably cheap for DIY installs. I would like to see a more substantial model be brought out from Ring for an advanced keypad that has chime capabilities, as well as a LCD screen that can show status, sensors that are open, etc. I would think it would cost a little more than the simple version, but for those that are using Ring as a platform for more complex alarm needs, it would be certainly welcome. I have 30 plus contact sensors, a bunch of motion detectors, two doorbell pro's and a bunch of stickup and other cameras, as well as integrated Yale door locks. The app is great, but there are times I do not want to have a phone or tablet in my hand to see what contacts might be open or what area had a motion detected. Guess we need to remember that "Ring was not built in a day..". Just part of my wish list, along with a dedicated glass break sensor, better contol on what cameras are doing and when (modes fully rolled out), more control on the zWave controller and perhaps even implementing the Zigbee controller as well (and not to forget greater network and access security that makes sense). Also keep improving the Aleaxa integration and yes - I would like to see HomeKit enabled as well. I'm looking for some great things in 2020 with Ring. Happy Holidays to the Ring Neigbors, new and old!

Ow this idea is the perfect solution to many of the issues I face. I would really like the door beep to ring through the security system. This would negate the need to buy an additional ringer.

Google nest isn't the answer people think. Read here about what their doing to work with Nest devices moving forward. Hi - In the app it would be great to see if the doorbell cam is being charged via the doorbell wiring. I have confirmed the appropriate voltage coming through the wires, but in the app you only see 'battery' similar to solar stick-up cams. Having the ability to know you are charging, even if slow, would be great. Right now, I don't know if my Doorbell 2 is getting a charge via the wiring or if it is 100% on battery. I have no way of being sure if I am getting a charge though I _think _it is as I am only seeing about 1% drop every couple days despite HDR video and near max motion zone sensitivity. Thanks for considering this.

I agree, we need to know if there is charging going in, not just a percentage of what the charge is. Good point!

Proposed feature -Save battery life -Reduce notifications -Reduce internet data usage (some have limit, and it is both home wifi and cellular data combined). Edit: user "mydogismychime" made my idea better: This is done with your phone. Multiple people on the system using geofencing with their phones. When everyone is gone, the security kicks in. "Settings" allow you to turn the security on when 1 person, or both members are gone from the house at a certain distance.

You don't need a keychain. This is called geofencing, and most devices that support it just use your phone as the "keychain". My thermostat does it to get my house to my ideal temperature when I get close so it can save energy while I'm gone. Good idea though, that would be a great feature for Ring.

I would really love to have the feature that when the doorbell is ringed, Amazon Echo Show can display the view directly, rather than me asking Alexa to show me the image.

The live view feature needs to have a video quality setting that can be adjusted. For example I'm currently having an issue because I have a budget phone plan with Sprint and they limit video streaming to 'DVD' quality for the price I pay. Apparently behind the scenes they're really just limiting any video stream to 1.5Mbps. Unfortunately streaming from my Ring Pro is considered the same as video streaming apps to come carriers so my live view will not connect. It would be great if there was a way to select the quality of the live view. If I could select a lower quality I could still use live view with my cell carrier. Also I'd go a step further and recommend even a voice only option. Like if I was somewhere with pretty poor service I'd still like to be able to talk to someone at my doorbell even if I couldn't see them in a pinch. So a drop down that had options like: Auto, 1080, 720, 480, audio only or similar would be very beneficial to a lot of people. Additionally it may help keep more customers as I nearly returned my Pro once I found out this was going to be an issue.

Dwain posted a similar suggestion, but I require it for a different need: At the moment there is no way to select video/audio quality (going from the ring to your phone) Dwain pointed out this can be an issue due to your phone plan, but for me I have a very slow internet connection at the network the device is connected to (with no way to upgrade) Meaning speach going to the doorbell is received well (and alerts on the phone are instantanious) but the incoming video is VERY delayed, and the audio is very distorted AND delayed. Making it really only a 1-way form of communication. At the moment using a Ring 2 because it has a 720P camera and a 1080P from the Pro would make things even worse. This option would be a must to be able to have customers that don’t want to or can’t upgrade internet plans (at home or for their phone) just to use the doorbell. I also have no need to view in 720P and having the ability to either lower the quality manually (480P) or disable the video feed all together would actually make it usable like intended. Or an auutomatic option where you could pick prioritize performance / quality. At the moment hesitating to finding a different solution that supports lower quality video feeds to help make the connection performance usable.

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for reaching out to the customers for suggestions; that's awesome. There are two things I'd love to see: (1) I use a hearing aid which I then pair with my iPhone. When I use the Ring app on my iPhone, sometimes the audio correctly comes to my hearing aid, but other times it comes out the speaker of the phone (even when the phones "mute" button is turned on). When this happens, I have to quickly stop ring or try to lower the volume or put my hand over the speaker. It can be very embarrassing and annoying. It would be great if the app had a way to choose where the audio comes out (phone ear piece, phone speaker, hearing aid (Bluetooth device), etc). (2) I really like my Ring Pro video doorbell. My existing intercom is a KSU, i.e., a phone/intercom system which has speaker/pushbutton modules by the front and back doors. I would like to have a way to easily interface the Ring Pro to my KSU. What would be nice to see is a small box that simply has a set of relay contacts (Common, Normally Open, Normally Closed) such that the relay is activated when the Ring Pro button is pressed. This box could either go inline with the video doorbell, or it could be stand alone and simply paired to the video doorbell. This way I could wire up the COM/NO relay contacts in parallel with the existing KSU push button to have the existing KSU ring the phones when someone hits the button on the Ring Pro. I hope this all makes sense. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or recommendations. Thank you for your time. :-)

This way I could wire up the COM/NO relay contacts in parallel with the existing KSU push button to have the existing KSU ring the phones when someone hits the button on the Ring Pro. Hi all. Just a quick update... I bought a couple 24 VAC (SPDT) relays and wired them in series with my Ring Pro doorbell (well, the relays are wired in parallel with each other, then that "relay pack" is wired in series with the Ring doorbell). Using the app on my phone, I then set the "Doorbell Type" to "Mechanical" (with a 2 second duration), and lo and behold, now when the button the Ring Pro is pushed, the relays kick in for 2 seconds. That solved this problem -- I wired the COM/NO contacts from one relay across the doorbell button contacts of my existing doorbell system (Panasonic KSU), and I'm planning on using the COM/NO contacts from the second relay as inputs to my home automation system (i.e., inputs to an ESP8266). Thanks to the Ring support team for pointing me to the 24 VAC relays. They work great. :-)

Hello - I too wear hearing aids that are paired to my iPhone as well. I experience similar problems with audio misdirection. As JonS said, it can be embarassing in a group (for your development team, think standing in a scrum standup when a stray noise emerges from a team member's phone while presenting your cards is progress..all eyes on you my friends!). Seriously, I have a reasonably large investment in Ring; doorbells, alarm system, 10 cameras, integrated door locks - i think you get the point. I really do love the Ring products and compay as a whole. Please continue down the path of enabling those that are impaired in some way. Thanks!!
