Ring indoor camera 2nd Gen

Hi there having recently got the Ring indoor camera 2nd gen to monitor my pet cat coming and going from the kitchen cat flap, i noticed that in the dark it does not light up at all, so it shows my white back door but everything else is just too dark. Even when my cat comes in u can't really distinguish it. There is not much light out the back but i though it would still show things clearly as it does during the day. i have adjusted all the settings colour mode etc but nothing has changed. It was only the £50 camera have i made a mistake in purchasing this one and is there another that would be a vast improvement, (Its fine during the day and when the kitchen light is on, just night time when its not) Hoping someone can help thanks
