Problem with lights. Disappointed with new Spotlight cam plus

Just bought new spotlight cam plus and I have a problem. I had the first gen spotlight cam, I had the option “ motion activated lights” turned ON and the camera lights ONLY came ON when motion detection toogle was ON. That way when my system was disarmed the lights would remain off even with motion, and when armed, lights would turn on with motion. Now with the new spotlight cams plus, it’s imposible, when the cameras are disarmed (motion detection toogle is off) the lights still turn on, making it impossible to walk around my property without draining the batteries. I just want the lights to turn on when motion detection is ON. So obvious, it worked on the old cameras but not on the new ones, I need a solution please or I will have to return the cameras, Don’t tell me to turn off The motion activated lights option, because I want the option to work like the old cameras as intended. Thanks

Hi @alexbll. Are there any Linked Devices tied to this Spotlight Cam Plus? If there are Linked Devices, that could be overriding the Mode Settings you have in place. Also, when the lights are turning on, is the cam recording or are the lights coming on with no recording? You can check this in your Event History Timeline. What I'm hearing is that your Spotlight Cam Plus is not adhering to the Mode Settings your enabled, and is detecting motion and recording when it should not be, correct? Thanks, neighbor.

Incorrect, since the motion detection toggle is off because it’s following the modes, no motion is recorded, but the lights still turn on with movement . I want the camera tho behave like the old one. I had the option “Motion activated lights” ON, and then when the toogle “motion detection” was off following modes (disarmed) the lights remained always OFF even with movement and then, in away and home, because the motion detection toggle turned ON, lights worked. The problem is now with the 4 new spotlight cam plus ,in disarmed, lights still turn on with motion (the motion detection toggle is OFF, following disarmed mode). •To be clear I want the lights only to turn on with movement in away and home mode, just as it did on the older spotlight cams. And in disarmed the lights remain always off. This worked on the older cams and should work on the newer ones. Why the camera is looking for movement to turn on lights if the motion detection is off (following disarmed mode)

Hi @alexbll. Thanks for clarifying this with me. I'm looking into this concern. Could you please check to see if the Firmware on your devices is up to date? You can find this information in the Device Health menu when you have the device selected in the Ring app. Do you also have Motion or Light schedules in place? Thank you for you patience while we look into this for you.

Hi @alexbll, happy to follow up here. Could you confirm if your Spotlight Cam Plus is battery or plug-in? Additionally, was your previous Spotlight Cam battery powered or hardwired? The behavior may differ depending on how the device is powered, so having this information would help.

I find the same issue. This is absolutely a known defect in the new generation of spotlight cam plus. The new manufacturer knows it and so does Ring. It is inferior in almost everyway to the old ones. The lights are not as bright. The sensitivity is not as good. The sensor does not trigger. The settings are different. The schedules don't work. The linking does not work properly. I have used ring for sometime with multiple items and have been saved from vandalism and theft but the new generation is no good. I went through all the troubleshooting. Did all the resets and defaults and connected back to wifi. Eventually the first one was replaced but he second one has the same exact issue. Again this is absolutely a know and defective unit still being sold and a quality control issue. I wish I had bought another older generation unit when I had the chance.

This is absolutely a known defect in the new generation of spotlight cam plus. The new manufacturer knows it and so does Ring. There is no known fix or resolution. It is inferior in almost everyway to the old ones although the camera seems to be better. The lights are not as bright. The sensitivity is not as good. The sensor does not trigger motion lights. The settings are different. The schedules don’t work. The linking does not work properly. I have attempted every setting and every reset and troubleshooting with support. It simply does not work as it should no matter the settings. I have used ring for sometime with multiple items and have been saved from vandalism and theft but the new generation is no good when they went to a new distribution chain clearly visible with a new made in tag and middle eastern alphabet. I went through all the troubleshooting. Did all the resets and defaults and connected back to wifi. Eventually the first one was warranty replaced the first week but he second one has the same exact issue after another month. Again this is absolutely a known and defective unit still being sold and a quality control issue with the new manufacturer and Ring. I wish I had bought another older generation unit when I had the chance. They work exactly as they should. Ring should stop selling this immediately until there is a fix and the ones in production need a forced update. Unfortunate...
