Playback bar no longer hides after single tap

This problem started for me around a couple of months ago (September 2023). In the history playback, not in timeline view, I can no longer tap to make the playback bar and ‘X’ in the upper left disappear. This is very annoying. I called Ring immediately and a guy overseas, probably in the Philippines, recorded my complaint. He had no immediate solution. He just said that it has to do with the developers and that he’d pass along my feedback to them. I’ve been patiently waiting for a solution for two months now to no avail. Ring: Please fix this ASAP.

Note: This problem is happening in the portrait position only, not in landscape.

Hi @user62593. Can you share some more information about this? What type of phone are you using and what version of the Ring app is installed? Can you share a video or screenshot of what you are referring to? Is this also present on Ring.com? Thanks, neighbor.

Hi @user62593. Thank you for sharing this feedback. It doesn’t appear that the X or playback bar affects the ability to play video or view it. With this in mind, this appears to be a matter of personal preference. I can forward this sentiment to the team that deals with it, but I can’t make any promises as to what will come of the request.

Hi Tom. This problem is not just a preference, it is impairing my view of the video area under the bar. Especially, when I try to zoom in on the bar area, it blocks the video too much. Why was this recently changed?

Hi @user62593. In this case, I would simply switch to landscape mode and view the area you are zoomed into with a larger field of view. This will allow you to have an unimpaired view of the video.

Yes, luckily I have that landscape workaround. Please tell me when and why this change to portrait was made? Also, why are you reluctant to revert to the previous way?

It’s not that I’m reluctant to share this information; it’s simply that these decisions are a bit “above my pay grade.” I can certainly share your sentiment about this change, but I don’t have the ability to change it myself. I can only advocate for change on your and all community members behalf. I hope to you had a Merry Christmas as well.
