Why must Amazon account be linked to enable devices

I have a bought a ring video doorbell and have followed the instruction for enabling the alexa devices to communicate with the doorbell. Even though the option of just enabling the skill without linking to my amazon account comes up it says it requires the accounts to be linked. I do not want my doorbell linked with my Amazon account. How do I achieve this?

Hi @user26095. In order to use your Ring devices with Alexa, you have to enable the Ring skill, which requires you to enter your Ring credentials. This will not link your Amazon account with Ring unless you select the option to link them. Are you able to provide screenshots of what you are seeing when doing this process?
