How is it possible that a company that specializes in alarm systems, doesn’t have a product that is central to the effectiveness of alarm systems; a loud outdoor siren? It seems like pretty low-hanging fruit to develop such a product so I’m wondering why Ring has chosen not to do so. I live in the the Catskills (upstate NY) and my neighbors aren’t close enough that they would hear the internal siren. While I appreciate every other aspect of the ring system, I’m considering moving to another brand that has outdoor sirens.

They have, and it was briefly for sale in the USA, but now only available in Europe due to a patent problem with ADT in the USA apparently. Seems Ring are in no hurry to deal with the problem, which shows Ring’s “can’t be bothered” attitude towards their products now, it’s just all about profit. Don’t be tempted to buy one from Europe and import it, they don’t work in the USA as Ring locked the regions, my guess is they paid a lot of money to Z-Wave to let them close what should be an open system by default.

@user63814 is absolutely correct on the UK/EU sirens being incompatible in the US. While it's difficult to say whether the outdoor siren's Z-Wave radio is tunable between North American and UK/Europe frequency bands, it's highly likely that Ring's trademark settlement agreement with ADT would anyway prevent them from making it possible for the infringing products to be purchased and deployed in the US in that manner. As annoying as the delay in releasing a replacement siren for the US is, consider that the product was launched in March 2021: the Connectivity Standards Alliance, of which Amazon is a significant promoter member, was already well into developing Matter, announcing it less than 2 months later. With Amazon and Ring all-in on Matter, and also considering the 2nd gen alarm had also just been launched alongside the siren, it's likely the product roadmap was already aligned to launch a future 3rd generation alarm on Matter and Thread--including a 2nd gen siren. Diverting resources to deliver an unplanned  US-only "gen 1.5" Z-Wave siren could have risked the timeline for the whole portfolio, and with Matter's release subsequently delayed by the Alliance, that kind of risk would likely be rather unfavorable.' I'd bet we'll soon see a new global Matter siren, with a non-infringing design, alongside the 3rd gen alarm. It'd be fantastic if the 3rd gen alarm base could launch with a dual Matter + Z-Wave radio configuration, helping those of us existing customers avoid forklift upgrades while supporting adding new native Matter components (like a 2nd gen siren!), but I'm not holding my breath.
