Retrofit kit

The batteries in my Retrofit kit only last around 3 months, are there any rechargable batteries I could use?Or is there a way to use a wall wart to power it?I use this in a normal house situation with internal PIR's and would have assumed the battery life would have lasted at least 12-24 months if this was indeed designed for typical domestic use...
