Installing door contact sensor on recessed door
Hello, I'm having trouble installing the contact sensor to my front door. The door is set back over an inch past the molding, it doesn't detect the magnet when in place. The slim magnet is still too big, the gap in between the door and frame, even when opened is almost non existent. Any recommendations on how to install this? Seems like the only options are getting the magnet/sensor to protrude out, perhaps with thick double sided tape or small block of wood the color of the door. Or trimming the molding so the sensor/magnet can sit further inside. I have more pictures but am only allowed to put one since I am a new member. Door jamb (AA battery for size reference)

Typically, I would chisel out a notch for the magnetic part. A little white caulk and it will look fairly good. But if you don't want to do that, you could try just removing enough wood from the backside of the casing to insert strong rare earth magnet. As far as I know, there isn't anything special about the magnet half. It is just a plastic case for looks. As the other posted suggested, any strong magnet close enough should work fine.

Hi there, @Kr320! You might find some great tips in our Contact Sensor installation help center article: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018549231-How-to-Install-your-Ring-Alarm-Contact-Sensors-on-Different-Types-of-Doors-Windows-and-Trim Based on your image and description, it looks like the magnet will be tough to fit here. If this is so, feel free to remove the magnet itself from the casing and place just the magnet on the molding. I hope this helps! :)
