Video timestamp changes

Only had my Ring doorbell v4 for a couple of weeks.
When downloading/saving video clips via my Android phone I have noticed that the Time of the video (which makes up part of the video title) is changed to the time that the video is viewed or downloaded. This isn’t great for evidence purposes, should I need to provide it to police etc.

Is there any way to stop this happening???

Hi @user12385. To confirm, is the timestamp only changing on the title of your downloaded video, or is this happening anywhere in the Ring app itself? Is there a way you can share an example of this, such as a screenshot showing the timestamp you’re seeing? It’d be helpful to have an example of what you’re seeing on your end.

Hi Caitlyn,

It only appears to change the name on the download. In the app, under Event History, the Date/Time of the original video clip remains unchanged! I understand these are only kept for 30 days, however, unless saved elsewhere.

Sorry to be a bit ‘dense’ but how do I attach/upload a screenshot from the app and from my cloud storage - where I am storing any videos I want to keep for longer - to this chat, for comparison?

@user12385 Thanks for that information. When you’re replying in this thread, you should see an icon with an arrow pointing up at the top of the reply box. Clicking this will allow you to upload any images saved on your device, such as a screenshot.

The arrow icon is the one outlined with a blue circle in the screenshot I’ve attached above. I’d be happy to look at the comparisons in the timestamps and check with my team on this after seeing your examples.

Hi Caitlyn,

The forum only allows me to send 1 attachment per Post, so I will follow this up with another Post -

Files in the Ring app are Date/Timestamped between 1649 & 1721 on May 26.

After downloading, the Timestamps range from 1729 to 1733 in the screenshot from the folder where they are saved on my Android device.

I hope this helps explain my query.

The second screenshot is attached.

Hi @user12385. Thanks for sharing this. I’ve consulted with my team on this and this is an expected behavior when downloading a video. When viewing the downloaded video, are you able to see the timestamp on the bottom right of the screen? There should be a correct timestamp visible on the video. Let me know if this is the case and if not, please share a screenshot of a downloaded video so I can share it with my team.

Thanks @Tom_Ring - Sorry for the late reply - I didn’t get a notification of a new reply to my Post!

It is so small when viewing on a smartphone that I hadn’t noticed, there IS a correct Time/Datestamp in the bottom-right of the screen when viewing a video. Thanks for pointing it out…

Hi @user12385. Not a problem! I’m glad that you have an accurate time on your downloaded videos.

Hello, to this point, is there a way to make the date/time display on a bigger font? it is indeed quite small. Almost useless.
Thanks!

Hi @RingUserBee. You cannot change the font size for that in the Ring app. As we value our neighbors’ feedback, we’ve created a Feature Request board. Feel free to add this and any future feature requests there. This will help us organize and share your requests with our teams here, as well as allow other neighbors to comment and add interest, all in one place. Feel free to link that post you make in the Feature Request board here so other neighbors that come to this thread can easily find your feature!

That’s not accurate. Previously I was downloading snapshots with the file name displaying the timestamp it was taken but tonight found the filename of timestamp it was stored.
