Hello @Chris20 ,

Nice of you to give your Ring Doorbell to a relative!

But if you are receiving emails, then apparently your old Ring Doorbell still thinks it is still “Owned” by you. I’m unclear as to what procedure you did use, but somehow it didn’t release your “Ownership.” And every time your relative attempts to setup your “gifted” doorbell, they will be unsuccessful and you’ll receive another automated-generated email.

One of the ways Ring devices keep you secure is through the concept of “Ownership.” Once you did your initial setup of your doorbell on your Ring account, the device became “owned” by you, and ownership cannot be transferred without the Owner’s permission. The proper way you release your “Ownership”:

  • Open the Ring app.
  • Tap the three lines on the top left of the screen.
  • Tap Devices.
  • Select the device you wish to remove. (your Ring Doorbell)
  • Tap Device Settings.
  • Tap General Settings.
  • Tap Remove This Device.

If you just deleted the Ring app from your mobile device, or physically uninstalled the doorbell, that does not change ownership. A device must be removed by the above steps, to untethered it, in the Ring app for a new owner to then successfully install it.

If you still have the Ring App on your phone, open the App and log into your Ring account. If you see your old doorbell is still there, then use the above steps to release/untether your onwership over it.

If you un-installed the Ring App, just reinstall it again. Your Ring account information was not stored on your phone, but rather it is stored on the Ring “Cloud” servers, so you could even use any phone that has the Ring App and log on with your Ring email/password information.

If you still have difficulties, or you had done the proper procedure to release your ownership and the automated emails continue, you can also telephone Ring Support. They can assist in removing your ownership over your old Ring Doorbell, so that your relatives can then set it up. Expect Ring Support to first confirm that it is really you, by asking for your email address that you used for your Ring account, and then they will email a code to your email. Once you open that email and tell them that code, they will be able to remove your ownership over that doorbell and the automated emails will stop.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19, their available hours have been changed also:

I hope this works out for your and your relatives easily.
