Solar charger for wired doorbells

I have wired doorbells in the front and back. The back has minimal motion detection settings, to the point where I wouldn’t want to reduce them any further. My batteries require charging almost every other week. This isn’t peace of mind as my settings are much less coverage than I would prefer. It is also inconvenient as I must charge so often. I bought the solar chargers for both Ring 1 and Ring 2, i was then told neither of which are compatible with hard wired doorbells.

I would like to see an accessory that charges my battery enough so my motion settings are so restricted.

Hi @soneil24. Can you clarify which Doorbell model you have? You can find this information on the original packaging and on the Device Health page in the Ring App. I’d be happy to offer some helpful suggestions once I have a better idea of what you have.

I have a similar problem. I have a Ring Video Doorbell 2 and I have to charge it almost every week. The Video Doorbell 2 is hardwired, is there a solar charger that can be hardwired also?

Hey @bRing1. Does the Video Doorbell 2 show as hardwired in your Ring app? I would recommend making sure that it shows it’s getting this trickle charge in the Device Health page, and that you have it connected to an existing mechanical or digital chime kit that operates at a voltage between 8 volts AC and 24 volts AC. If it is operating below or above this power, this could be not providing charge, or also providing too much and wearing down the battery.

You can get the solar charging for the Ring Video Doorbell 2 here to see if this helps as well. In addition, I recommend getting another battery if you’ve only ever used one battery and have had the device for awhile, as you may need to replace the battery. You can also reach out to our support team to troubleshoot the device before replacing the battery yourself, just to check in on it for you. I had one of those solar chargers for my ring and was disappointed. Even though the Ring was mounted on our outside gate and getting a decent amount of light. I ended up finding a solar panel with a connection that was compatible with the doorbell 2 and mounted that behind the gate where it wasn’t showing and ran the cable to the doorbell. Charges up fully everyday. Anyways those little solar plates for the doorbell would need direct sunlight for a long time to do any type of charging. They are only 0.35 Watts.

Since I am new here I can’t post my own question, so I have to piggy-back yours. I have a ring doorbell 1 that is hardwired. I started having issues with it trickle charging, so I thought I would add a doorbell solar charger. However, can you have a wired doorbell with a solar charger?

Hi @drhumphrey570. You are not able to add 2 different power sources to a Ring Doorbell. The Doorbell is only capable of recognizing 1 alternate power source. If your Doorbell is not registering that it is hardwired, try resetting in and reconnecting it to wifi.
