Schedule for Motion Activated Lights - Potential Workaround?

I only want my lights to turn on when they detect motion in the middle of the night, say midnight to dawn. The light schedule has two options -- Lights Always On and Lights Always Off. I don't want my lights on all night long for numerous reasons, including the fact that I want the lights to come on and scare any intruder who comes into my yard. There should be a third schedule option, which is Motion Activation On. Under this schedule, the lights would only turn on when they detect motion during a set time. I believe I have a workaround, which is to use a Lights Always Off schedule for the rest of the time, i.e. dawn to midnight. Thoughts on if this is the best way to address the issue?
