It tells you this in the instructions and online. If you don’t want it. Return it. Rings at fault?

Hi @David_07! In order to use our devices as intended, only a compatible mobile device with the Ring app installed and a sufficient wifi signal is required. As long as you are signed in to the Ring app and have setup your devices to connect to your in home wifi network, your device should work as intended.

While the Protect Plan subscriptions are not required, it certainly will help if you would like the event recording and reviewable history features, among other great benefits! Without the subscription, you will still have the ability to receive alerts and answer videos real time, or even live view from the Ring app. Feel free to check out our Protect Plan article for more information!

I was hit with that too, bought the cameras a year ago but didn’t see this coming about having to have plans to keep the recordings… sux. Should have bought Arlo instead. Too late to return!!!

Just so you know. Arlo charges as well. In case you missed that too…

At $9.99/month for each camera, Arlo costs at least three times more than Ring. Other than the cloud storage, I hope Ring’s other remote smart app features still work without the monthly charges.

Hi there, @KOmh! Check out our help center guide to Protect Plans, with a chart that compares the features included in each plan, including for unsubscribed neighbors.

It looks like the price you mentioned above is for the Protect Plus plan, which comes with great benefits and the most features of any plan.
