Ring intercom how it works
Am I right in thinking the door intercom has to be buzzed externally before you can talk or unlock ? Ie if I just pressed the unlock in the app this would not unlock the gates if I had connected to my gates as that’s what I’m getting.

It depends the handset you are using in the building. You can check in the Ring App to see if your device is supporting this feature (Tap the menu icon ☰ in the upper left corner of the app screen → Tap Devices ->Tap your Ring Intercom).
