Ring doorbell 2 does need resetting to reconnect

troubleshooting
Hi all We’ve had the ring 2 for a while and every time the internet stops working for any length of time, the doorbell disconnects and refuses to reconnect unless I reset it to factory settings What’s worse is that there isn’t even a notification when it goes offline. So we have literally no idea if someone is at the door if it disconnects. I feel like this is not an issue that should happen. What sort of device cannot automatically reconnect to a wifi point? We are using a brand new router from Bt. So it is not like it’s obscure.. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi @user6814. What is the RSSI for your Doorbell? This can be found in the Ring app under the Device Health menu. The RSSI is essentially the Doorbells connection strength and if it is not strong enough, it will have a hard time connecting. You can always add a Chime Pro to your system if this is the case.

This seems to be a common problem mine does this as well and it won't even connect to an access point 6 inches away. Driving me nuts.

Hi @RegGraham. In addition to the questions above, what type of surface is your Doorbell mounted to? If it is mounted to brick or stone, it can have an intermittent connection due to the interference from the building materials it is mounted to. It is also a good practice to reboot your internet router weekly to ensure your devices maintain a strong connection.

Hi @user12075. Have you checked the information in either of the replies by Tom? If your Ring Doorbell isn't automatically reconnecting to wifi, it's good to check the [RSSI](https://community.ring.com/t/how-it-works-your-ring-device-rssi-good-vs-poor/229#M4) as well as look at potential causes of interference around your Doorbell. If your wifi router hasn't been reset in awhile, I would also recommend giving this a try to ensure the router is performing optimally.
